what is betrayal?

is it trust misplaced, perhaps, the error in judgment of giving trust to someone and finding out that person cannot be trusted... he does that often because he gives everyone the benefit of doubt right from the start, believing in the goodness of people and hoping everyone can be trusted... she does the same, very similar in their desire to believe people are good and altruistic and trustworthy... they are both disappointed a lot and that hurts... the hurt comes from being let down often... sadness comes every time the hope is dashed by someone who betrays the trust... depression comes from the repeated let downs... perhaps giving up trusting is the right decision, but neither he nor she want to do that... he is closer to it than she is and that frustrates her as she holds on to the child inside of her more than he does... he doesn't forget as easily... he is older and has a lot more hurts, deeper betrayals... still, they both want the same thing, to believe in people...
