sleepless nights

she repeats the pattern day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year... she knows it is killing him, raising his blood pressure, eating him away inside, keeping him awake at nights... she tries not to think about that... he feels so alone and abandoned, the story of his life, always giving, giving all he has, all he can... he hopes things will change, but they don't... she keeps promises things, but she doesn't keep her promises... she forgets... or ignores... she avoids his pain as she avoids her own... when you lie to yourself it is simple to lie to others... so she goes to bed again saying the same words... nite nite, love you... and he parrots back the same, nite nite, love you... and they really do mean it... she knows how much she needs him, how much she depends on him, and hoe much he has given here... she knows how much it hurts him to be left in silence... she doesn't like to think about that... and as he sits awake staring into the void of a life given away, he wonders how she sleeps at night... he wonders how she can stop her mind...
